Risk management during the transport of large transformers with nitrogen filling

According to a new regulation, open pressurised gas cylinders may not be used on ships in closed storage rooms. This concerns large transformers transported by sea freight.

To prevent particular the ingress of particulate matter and moisture into the sensitive active part, these are often filled with dry air or nitrogen and excess pressure. It is possible, that there is a risk of pressure drop and therefore continuous monitoring is required.

The overpressure sensor can be screwed directly into the sled wall of transport containers or machines. In combination with the RISK LOGGER MONILOG® ShockDisplay curve plus, it continuously monitors the filling during transport and registers any drop in pressure. Changes in pressure can be quickly detected on the display and early intervention is warranted.

In addition to pressure monitoring, the data logger registers impact, inclination incidents and the GSP position as well, so that a complete recording of all parameters relevant for the transport of the transformer is guaranteed.

By using a MONILOG® data link transmission unit, an immediate alarm message via mobile radio or satellite modem is also possible in the event of a limit value being undershot.
