Participation to expedition in cooperation with the German Insurance Federation (GDV)

Is rail freight a real alternative to aviation and shipping? Definitely from the point of view of cost and time factor. But what kind of stress are the goods exposed to and how can they be better protected?

The German Insurance Federation (GDV) asked itself these questions and launched a new research project on the subject with stakeholders from science and industry.

In mid-March 2021, the first test expedition by ship was organized by the GDV. SMT ELEKTRONIK provides ten different MONILOG® data loggers for this research project, which monitor the state of the container as well as the sensitive test cargo – in this case wooden beams and steel sheets – in belonging of shock, relative humidity, temperature and air pressure and report it back to the research team.

The container is expected back in early August after more than 120 days of travel in Hamburg. The second measurement run is scheduled to take place soon and will be carried out by rail over the Silk Road. Following, together with the research team, the collected data is evaluated and a recommendation for the safe transport of cargo is proposed.
